LIS Notes: Parallel and Serial Conectors

Parallel cables (top left) are usually found inside your computer, connecting key pieces of equipment like disk drives and their controllers. They are multi-wire cables, which usually clip onto components and circuit boards. Serial cables are used to connect peripherals to your computer. They usually have 9-pin or 25-pin connectors (bottom left).

Small and versatile, Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectors (right) are used to attach peripherals to each other and to the computer.

8-pin RJ45 cables (bottom right) are used for cable modem or Network connections. They look like the 4-pin RJ11 cables used for phones.
