LIS Notes: Optical Storage Media

In this photo, you can see clearly how the used portion of a CD-ROM can be distinguished from the unused portion. This CD holds 700 Megabytes, of which only 96 have been used.

The CD 's surface has been pitted by a laser during the recording process. The Intel camera used to take the picture is reflected in the unused portion.
